Becoming A Sanctuary

To become an Audubon Sanctuary, the Innsbrook community had to first be certified in five different areas including:

• Environmental Planning
• Wildlife Habitat Management
• Resource Conservation
• Waste Management
• Outreach and Education

Upon demonstrating a high degree of environmental quality in each of these areas, Innsbrook was certified as a sanctuary. Individual projects for the sanctuary program have included:

• Creating an interpretive nature trail
• Implementing water and energy conservation plans
• Providing programs through local schools
• Planting native flora in landscape areas
• Redesignating 20 mowed areas as wildlife habitat
• Conducting wildlife inventories
• Instigating a community recycling program
