Becoming A
Sanctuary
To become an Audubon Sanctuary,
the Innsbrook community had to first be certified
in five different areas including:
- Environmental Planning
- Wildlife Habitat Management
- Resource Conservation
- Waste Management
- Outreach and Education
Upon demonstrating a high degree of environmental
quality in each of these areas, Innsbrook was
certified as a sanctuary. Individual projects
for the sanctuary program have included:
- Creating an interpretive nature trail
- Implementing water and energy conservation
plans
- Providing programs through local schools
- Planting native flora in landscape areas
- Redesignating 20 mowed areas as wildlife habitat
- Conducting wildlife inventories
- Instigating a community recycling program
