Enjoy a winter evening of story time and warm memories at the stables.

The stables were hung with lights that glistened and the soft sound of a silent night played the horses to sleep on a cold New Year’s Eve night. 

December 31st is a special day of the year for horse owners everywhere. It’s not just for the new year to come, but for the new foals to arrive as it begins the foaling season for ranchers everywhere. Although at Dun Right we have no horses “expecting” this year, all of our horses were once someone’s dream as their owners waited in the cold for their cherished dam to give birth.

The 1st day of the year is the unofficial birthday for all horses without a birthday, a tradition that came about in the race horse industry. 

This year, Dun Right Stables will be hosting a silent night story time at the stables! Come read a bedtime story to a horse and help tuck them in for the new year to arrive, and be sure to whisper them a Happy Birthday! Dress in whatever you choose- holiday best, cowboy country, or your cozy bedtime pajamas, don’t forget to bring a book or check out one from the library next door! (But do Dress warm, and you may want to bring along blankets- barns are NOT heated.) Before and after your session you may sit around the barn campfire (weather pending), sip complementary hot cocoa, and enjoy seeing our Red Barn animals.

*Registered guests will be paired up with one of our horses and their owners for a 15 minute private time on hay bales in front of their assigned horses stall. Campfire, weather pending, and hot cocoa included. Horse barns will be limited to the guests' time slot hours only, but you may sit around the fire, or check out the Red Barn animals before or after your private story time session. Guests may take their own photos with the horse during the session.

Please note that petting the horse is NOT guaranteed and will be at the discretion of each horse's owner during your session. Please remember these are privately owned animals, please respect all rules when at Dun Right.

Sessions are booked for 15 minutes per group.
Group sizes of 2-10 max.

Please rsvp with all the names in your group. We will assign a time slot for you based on availability and let you know when your time slot is. There is LIMITED AVAILABILITY for sessions, we will let you know your session time prior to the event. Once spots are full we will start a waitlist. A specific horse and their owner will be assigned to each group which will be announced as you arrive for your session, and not prior to. Your set 15 minute time slot will be emailed to you in advance.

Cost- Any contribution you see fit is greatly appreciated and helps support our growing holiday display. Dun Right is a private business separate from the Innsbrook Resort. Contributions can be made via cash, check, paypal or venmo.
